Chairman Suzanne Roberge called the meeting to order at 6:30pm. Councilors present included Robert Gagne, Michelle Kareckas, and Norma Tutelian. Town Manager Jeffrey A. Grossman and Assessing Agent Rosann Maurice were also in attendance. Councilor Richard Clough was not present.
Ms. Maurice explained that total assessments are up approximately $100 million due to increased values and building permits. She is recommending a tax rate of $12.10 with a 3.05% overlay ($223,547.48). She added that the overlay is necessary for adjustments to cover any errors. There is also the possibility of an abatement request for over $60,000. Ms. Maurice went on to state that she would be more comfortable with the higher overlay, especially since values have increased. Increased values often create more abatement requests.
On a motion by Ms. Kareckas, seconded by Mr. Gagne, it was unanimously voted to set the tax rate at $12.10/$1000 of valuation for the 2006/2007 fiscal year.
On a motion by Mr. Gagne, seconded by Mrs. Tutelian, it was unanimously voted to adjourn the meeting at 6:41pm.
