Community Development Committee

Attendance: Genie Jennings, Brian Kunkel, Tony Lemmo and Smilie Rogers.
Meeting called to order through unanimous consent by Tony Lemmo at 630.
1. Election of officers by unanimous agreement of all present. Chairman: Tony Lemmo; Vice Chairman: Brian Kunkel; Scribe: Genie Jennings.
2. Meetings will be held on the third Thursday of the month at 630pm in the Council Chambers.
3. Read and discussed Council Charge to the CDC.
Points of discussion (no motions or formal actions taken):
1. Expand definition of ‘community’ to include entire town, as this will impact the preservation and protection of the downtown area.
2. Consider ourselves an ‘action committee’ and that it is important to accomplish things.
3. Want public involvement; hope to have citizen’s participation in formal monthly meetings.
4. Begin with introducing ourselves to downtown businesses.
5. What is our scope: how far can we go before we have to ask permission to do things.
6. Funding: prefer not to use town funds. Possibilities of a ‘neighbor discount’ as a card or coupon.
7. Rejected expanding on the dining out project developed for the Berwick Academy soccer tournament. Will use some data, but develop a more encompassing campaign.
8. Connections: Tony is president of South Berwick Networking Group; Smilie is member of Rotary. Somersworth Chamber of Commerce includes the Berwicks as does York Chamber of Commerce. We should all participate in community groups.
9. Informal personal introductions. There is a ‘dog connection.’ Possibility of a ‘dog park’ project.

2. At next meeting set date in November to introduce ourselves to downtown businesses
