COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE
Minutes May 20, 2010
Meeting called to order at 6:32 by Tony Lemmo. Members present Tony Lemmo, Brian Kunkel, Genie Jennings, and Jen Houghton.
Introduction of new member, Jen Houghton.
Jen brought up a proposed new town event headed by Nicole St.Pierre, a “Lantern Walk” to be held on the Saturday after the Autumnal Equinox.
Genie requested that we follow the Agenda because we have some things that have to be accomplished. It had come to her attention that some of the approved minutes for the CDC had not been published through the Town Manager’s office, and were therefore unavailable for citizens who had attempted to read them.
Minutes for November were read and agreed to for re-submission.
Minutes for January were approved and signed, ready for submission to Town Clerk.
OLD BUSINESS:
1. Dog Park was tabled for the present. Jim Fisk will be contacted as to what he has done to further the project (Tony). Smiley Rogers will be contacted, and will be requested to assist with further work when the project is re-visited. (Brian) Unanimous consent.
NEW BUSINESS:
1.Market Day. Genie suggested Friends of the Library be the best group to use the Market Day concept. Unanimous consent.
2. Community Calendar. Year-round, visible. We would like both an electronic (SB website) and physical calendar upon which all activities in South Berwick could be presented to the public. It would make scheduling easier for any groups wanting to host an event. Should include all public groups. Unanimous consent to make this the first project for CDC.
To Do List:
1. Jen will bring a prototype to the next meeting.
2. Jen suggested each member develop a mission ‘statement’ of 3-5 words.
3. Short-term Project: Calendar.
4. Long-term Project: Connect groups in town and find and fill the holes in what needs to be done.
5. Upcoming Events:
a. JAD Mercantile, 12 Portland Ave. Ribbon-cutting not yet scheduled.
b. Kids’ Day June 5.
c. Strawberry Festival June 26. (We want the calendar ready for SF.)
Meeting adjourned, 7:55.
Respectfully submitted.
Genie Jennings, Scribe, CDC
