Community Development Committee
January 21, 2010
Attendance: Genie Jennings, Brian Kunkel, Smilie Rogers and Paul Schumacher, Jim Fisk.
Meeting called to order at 630 by Brian Kunkel, Vice-Chairman. There are no minutes available from the December meeting, but it was reported that the decision was made at that meeting to revert to one meeting a month, as more meetings were too difficult for a quorum to attend.
The only item for business was to define the first project the committee will concentrate on developing. Two items were proposed: (1) a dog park; and (2) a combination Flea Market/Farmers Market.
Proposed location for the Dog Park is in the area of the Ball Parks on Agamenticus Road. The necessity of fencing was discussed.
The same location was originally proposed for the Market project, but after discussion it was agreed by a majority that this should be located in or near the St. Michael’s property.
Paul reported that the Southern Maine Regional Planning Commission has approved approximately $200,000 for removal of asbestos, mold, etc. from the building. There are details to be addressed, but this is positive sign that progress will be seen on the project.
The possibility of a second Children’s Day in early May, was also discussed. The committee thought this was something we would encourage, but not one we would organize.
Producing a simple map of the town in conjunction with a Market Day was suggested.
Action List:
1. Genie will email proposed minutes
2. Committee will vote by email on which project to undertake first.
3. Jim will look into the regulations in town, and also investigate how other towns are dealing with Farmers Markets/Flea Markets.
Next meeting will be the third Thursday in February.
Meeting adjourned at 730.
Respectfully submitted,
Genie Jennings, Scribe
