ABSENTEE VOTING
Absentee ballots are generally available for 30 days prior to Election Day.
Absentee ballots may be requested in person at the Clerk’s Office, by phone at 384-3300, x101, or online at
Effective September 28, 2011 a new law was enacted that states absentee ballots may not be issued after the 3rd business day before Election Day unless the voter meets 1 of the following criteria:
1. Unexpected absence from the municipality for the entire time the polls will be open,
2. Physical disability or an incapacity or illness that has resulted in the voter’s being unable to leave home or a treatment facility, or
3. Inability to travel to the polls if the voter is a resident of a coastal island ward or precinct.
If a voter meets 1 of the 3 criteria above, a written application (as designed by the Secretary of State) is required for an absentee ballot to be issued on the Friday or Monday before Election Day.
