PUBLIC HEARING
PINE TREE ZONES
JULY 12, 2004
Chairman Robert Gagne opened the hearing at 6:30pm. Councilors present included John Ford, John Rudolph, Suzanne Roberge, and Richard Clough. Jon St. Pierre, the Town Manager was also in attendance.
The purpose of the hearing was to receive public comment on the proposed implementation of Pine Tree Zones to aid in economic development. Mr. Gagne read the proposed resolution. See attachment after Council minutes.
Ralph Stevens, Old South Road, asked where the zones are and if the town owns the properties involved. Mr. St. Pierre stated that the Zones would include the areas currently defined as the B1 and B2 zones, including portions of Main, Portland, and Norton Streets, and the I1 zone, on Route 236 near the high school. The town does not own the properties in the I1 zone.
Norma Tutelian, Butler Street, asked who owns the land in the industrial zone. Answer given was Barletta and others.
Clifford Cleary, Spillane’s Hill, commended the Council for adopting the resolution.
Ruth Boston, Emery’s Bridge Road, asked about the development of the road entering the “industrial park” area. Mr. Gagne stated that there had been talk, but nothing materialized.
Ms. Roberge questioned who the authorized official, referenced in the resolution, is. Mr. St. Pierre stated that the Council would be the local authority. He added that if the Council adopts the resolution it would be forwarded to Southern Maine Regional Planning for inclusion in the application that would be sent to the State.
Mr. Rudolph and Mr. Clough both expressed their concerns that local business owners, especially the owner of the land in the I1 zone, were not present.
Mr. Gagne closed the hearing at 6:47pm.
