ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Accounting Specialist has the following primary responsibilities:  Oversees the preparation of an annual budget, monitoring it during the year, and preparing financial reports; reviews cash flow projections for the week/month; accounts receivable and accounts payable functions; prepares the warrant; reviews monthly investments with financial institutions to record activity and to satisfy cash flow needs; balances General Ledger Accounts; and prepares for the annual audit working closely with the external auditors.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED FOR THE POSITION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or related field, or the equivalent in education and progressively-responsible, related work experience required.
  • At least three (3) of progressively-responsible finance/accounting experience at a working supervisory level preferred.
  • Experience working in a municipality or other governmental entity preferred.
  • Experience using computerized financial spreadsheets, general ledgers, charts of accounts, etc. required.  Experience and expertise with Northern Data software preferred.
  • Experience in managing payroll and employee benefit programs preferred.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with the Town Council in a public forum.
  • Adept in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and database software.
  • Strong analytical skills, along with system and strategic thinking.
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills.
  • Supervisory skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to handle conflict with the public.
  • Ability to multi-task.

TRANSFER STATION ATTENDANT

SOUTH BERWICK Transfer Station has an immediate opening for a Reserve/On-Call Transfer Station Attendant.  This position has no regular scheduled hours and is on an as needed basis.  The Transfer Station is open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday each week.  The majority of the work is performed outdoors.

SNOW PLOW DRIVER AND SNOW REMOVAL LABORER

South Berwick’s Public Works Department is accepting applications for on-call snow plow drivers and snow shoveler/laborers.  These positions are reserve only and on an as needed basis. 

Duties for driver include:  Winter storm maintenance, plowing, salting, and general labor.  To be considered, applicants must possess a valid license with an excellent driving record, and pass pre-employment drug test.  All candidates must also pass a pre-employment background investigation.

Hourly rate for snow plow drivers is $14.11 and snow shoveler is $11.59.

The Town of South Berwick is accepting applications for a seasonal winter cook position at the Highway Garage.  This is an on-call role during inclement weather only with no scheduled hours or benefits.  The hourly wage is $13.42.
