ONLINE REGISTRATION for all recreation programs.  We will not sell or otherwise distribute your email address. If you unable to register online, register in person in the town clerk's office.
SENIOR CENTER is a gathering place to enjoy good times, good food and good friends.  The newsletter is updated the last Wednesday each month and available online or at the community center.

Fall Programs

Pee Wee Soccer
REGISTER ONLINE!  The Pee Wee Soccer program is offered in the spring and fall for children aged 3 to 5.   The Fall 2014 program will begin Monday, September 15th and the session will run for four weeks.  Children ages 4 and 5 play either Monday or Tuesday at 9-10am or 12:30-1:30pm and children age 3 play Monday or Tuesday 10:30-11am.  Please register online or at town hall.  For questions, call the recreation department at 384-3306.

Tennis Lessons
REGISTER ONLINE!  Tennis lessons are available for all ages and taught by Berwick Academy's James Fardelmann.  The PeeWee Tennis program is held at teh Shoe Town Playground tennis courts for children aged 3 to 5.   The Fall 2014 program will begin Thursday, September 18th and the session will run for four weeks.  Children ages 4 and 5 play either Thursday or Friday at 9:30-10:15am or 12:30-1:15pm and children age 3 play Thursday or Friday 10:30-11am.  The program for ages 6 and up is held at the Berwick Academy tennis courts and taught in three 2-week sessions playing Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Ages 6-9 play at 3:30, 10-13 at 4:30, teens and adults play at 5:30.  The first session begins Tuesday, September 16th.  Please register online or at town hall.  For questions, call the recreation department at 384-3306.

Enrichment programs
REGISTER ONLINE!  Treetops Chorus, Mad Science, and Wildlife Encounters programs are held at Central School throughout the school year.  The first session of Mad Science begins Tuesday, September 23rd and the first session of Treetops Chorus begins Wednesday, September 24th.  Flyers will go home with school-aged children during the first couple weeks of the school year and registration is available online.

Winter Programs

Ski Programs
The Recreation Department offers Friday evening skiing for students of Marshwood Middle School.  This program travels to Gunstock ski areas on alternate Fridays. Information on this program is usually available during fall conferences.  The department also offers a family ski program to Attitash.  The bus for this program leaves from the Community Center early Sunday morning and returns in the early evening for a full day of family fun.  Ride the bus, or drive separately; you can join us either way.  Information on this program is usually available in early December in Town Hall, the Community Center and at the High School.  There is a lesson program available for elementary aged kids through King Pine.  More informaiton will be available for these programs during the late fall.  Also check the powderhouse hill website at www.powderhousehill.com to find out what's going on at our local hill.

Spring Programs

Pee Wee Soccer
The Pee Wee Soccer program is offered in the spring and fall for children aged 3 to 5.  Sessions are held at the soccer fields on Willow Drive.  This is a great way to introduce your little ones to the sport of soccer.

Tennis Lessons
Tennis lessons are offered each summer for beginners and advanced players at the Berwick Academy Tennis Courts.  Adult and childrens classes are available.  Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays this year.

Summer Programs

Strawberry Run
Our annual 5 mile run is held each year on the last Saturday in June in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival.  In 2015, the Race will be held on Saturday, June 27th.  The Road Race begins at 8:00 am (check in 6:30-7:30 am) at the South Berwick Marshwood Great Works School located on Academy St. just off Rte. 236.  An awards ceremony and raffle prizes are held at the Marshwood Great Works School immediately following the race

Summer Camp
Our summer camp programs provide safe and fun activities for over 180 children each summer.  Signups are available online for each week.  You must signup by the Wednesday prior to the week of camp if  you wish to use our online system.  Signups after that date must be completed in person in the Town Clerk's office during regular business hours, no mail in registrations after Wednesday please.  Please signup early so we will be able to plan for adequate transportation for your child to our field trips.  Camp is held at Marshwood Great Works School on Academy Street (formerly called Marshwood Middle School).  Please do not "show up" on Monday expecting to attend camp that week. You must pre-register your child. Camp hours are Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 4 pm except the last day of camp will be from 9 am to 2 pm.  There wil be no after camp care the last day.  Resident fees are $135/wk, (week 1 $95), additional children $115/wk and non-residents are $150/wk (week 1 $110).

Art In The Park
This is a fun *free* program is held at Shoetown Playground (across from the firestation) one morning a week during the summer months.
The Eastern Trail
The Easter Trail has the potential to be the most significant recreational project along the southern Maine coast! Imagine walking - or biking - mostly through off-road woodland trails from Strawberry Banke in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to Bug Light Park on Casco Bay in South Portland. This is the vision of the Eastern Trail Alliance, whose members seek to reopen the former railroad corridor into Maine as a multi-use recreational greenway. Recreation Director Sharon Brassard and Anita Rosencrantz, resident of South Berwick,  are on the committee for The Eastern Trail.

Who We Are

Our Recreation Department has a full-time Director and many volunteers for each of their events and programs. This Department works to provide many fun and interesting activities to all age groups here in South Berwick. The Recreation Department works with the local schools, sports groups, and the senior citizens of South Berwick and surrounding towns.

Who Funds Us
It is very important to know that there is a budget from the Town for this Department to work with. However, WITHOUT VOLUNTEERS, very little could actually happen!
