Administrative Offices


The Part Time Finance/Benefits Clerk position will be primarily responsible for the Accounts Payable Warrant and processing the weekly Payroll as well as assisting our Tax Collector with processing payments and answering questions via phone or email.  Communication and collaboration with the Finance and Human Resource Office is critical.  Capabilities essential for success include excellent time management skills and showing motivation to take on other duties when these are complete.  A  successful candidate will display willingness to work with other departments and communicate their availability to handle other tasks when primary duties have been completed.  The schedule will vary based on need and may sometimes require more hours to complete specific tasks, but will  be regularly scheduled for 20 hours per week minimum.  Reasonable flexibility in schedule is a must.  This position is eligible for part time benefits.

The Customer Service Representative works in the Business Office 16-20 hours per week.  Hours may increase depending on the changing needs of the Town.  Advancement potential exists to become an Assistant or Deputy Town Clerk.  Municipal experience especially with TRIO software preferred.  This position is the first point of contact in the Town Clerk's office.  Must have excellent interpersonal skills and have computer and cash handling experience.  Must be a Maine resident.  Hourly wage commensurate with experience starting at $14.25.

Recreation Department


The Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Full-Time Summer Day Camp Counselor working for our summer camp program for children ages 5-13 years old.  Experience working with children in a daycare, youth sports, day camp or school setting preferred.  Responsibilities include constructive leadership in groups, appreciation of the outdoors, activity planning , knowledge of and being able to lead games and sports, creativity, enthusiasm, emotional maturity, supervising CITs and Junior Counselors, weekly theme plans and follow through with safety procedures.  Hourly wage $10.57/hr.  Consideration will be given first to candidates who have worked with the program previously as a Jr. Counselor and/or Counselor in Training.

The job duties include camp preparation, staff training and meetings, communication with parents and campers, participation in programs, maintaining school and recreation communication, and safety of campers and staff.  Previous experience in a day camp environment, education in Early Childhood, or related field and experience in basic first aid and CPR are preferred.

Police Department

RESERVE TRAFFIC CONTROL.  The primary purpose of this role is to direct and manage the flow of traffic at busy intersections during periods of traffic congestion to ensure the free flow of traffic and safety of pedestrians.  Click on the link for more information.  Posted 10.31.17

PART TIME DISPATCH. The primary purpose of this role is to provide emergency and non-emergency dispatching services and clerical work supporting the Town of South Berwick's public safety operations using the radio equipment, typing, and records preparation. Must have excellent communication skills and have a sophisticated degree of persuasiveness to influence the behavior of others. Must be able to maintain professionalism in challenging situations.

NCIC and METRO Certification is mandatory. Certification in E-911 through the State of Maine is mandatory. Emergency Medical Dispatch Certification is highly desired. Completion of Terminal Operator Certification Course is mandatory.

Fire Department


The purpose of this position is to protect life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials, and fire prevention duties for the South Berwick Fire Department; all other related work as required. The Firefighter is responsible for maintaining and improving upon the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under his/her direction and control.

Public Works


This position works under the direct supervision of the Highway Foreman, Jay Redimarker to provide meals and nourishment to the Winter Maintenance Crew during periods of inclement weather.  Needs are subject to change based on weather conditions and duration of the storm.  Requirements include having some culinary experience, dependable transportation, good work ethic, and the ability to work independently with little supervision.  Hourly wage is $13.50 per hour.  


This position is reserve only on an as - needed basis. Duties include winter maintenance, snow plowing and removal, salting and general labor tasks. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations is important. Applicant should be available for weather and non-weather related emergencies. A valid drivers license with a clean driving record is required. Hourly wage starts at $15.50/hr.

Transfer Station


Wed, Sat &/or Sun. Shifts may vary.

Successful candidates for the Transfer Station must be at least 21 years old, be reliable, able to lift up to 50 lbs, work independently and have an effective working relationship with the public.  The majority of the work is performed outdoors.  $15.00 per hour.
